Practice Tip *7

Alright peeps, I know it’s been a while for a practice tip, been a busy Summer crisscrossing the globe. I’m home from Canada and re packing for Australia but wanted to share this little idea with you before I head out the studio door once more.

This month’s practice tip is inspired by Laban technique, with a twist. The aim of the game is movement dynamics. Different tension levels and interesting shapes.

First you’ll need to find your old comic book stash as I just did while re arranging my studio.

Tank Girl! I thought I’d lost you! Sweet!

If you don’t have an old collection, head to your nearest second hand book shop and seek out some Manga. I’ll be using Hiromu Arakawa’s “Fullmetal Alchemist” for this exercise…

Next have a flick through and take note of the text describing sounds/actions in the scenes: Clang! Blam! Tong! Shwap! Boot. Domp. Glooom. Loom. Slam…etc etc etc

After a good warm up it’s time to improvise using these words. Translate the text into movement!

You can also use the images/drawings to aid you in adding direction changes/use of space.

How can these words add dynamics to your existing Belly Dance vocabulary?

Next, write down/video/log everything you come up with and use the new material to make your movement combinations.

Go forth and play!I cant wait to see what you come up with.

My pleasure

xxx
